Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament Looking for Teams

Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament Looking for Teams

(BANGOR)  The up-and-down temperatures of the past week have actually improved ice conditions for the Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament set for Saturday, February 9 at Camp Roosevelt in Eddington, Maine.  Five of the 20 slots available are already filled in the Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary Club’s 4th Annual tournament.

“We know that teams want to be sure of conditions and might be waiting to make a decision,” says Steve Andrew, club president and Pond Hockey Committee Chair.  The ice on Fitts Pond is between 12 and 18 inches deep and the warmer weather has created a great surface, which Andrew says should be an incentive for teams to sign up.

WinterKids Celebrates 4th Annual Cooper Campbell Day at Shawnee Peak - fun for all

WinterKids will kick off the 2012-2013 winter season with Cooper Campbell Day, a fun, fast-paced, on-mountain event for kids and their families at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, ME from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16th.

The festival—now in its fourth year—celebrates the life of Cooper Campbell, of Scarborough, who was killed by a drunk driver on the Maine Turnpike in April 2008. According to Steve Campbell, Cooper's father, fifteen-year-old Cooper was an avid skier and snowboarder who "enjoyed winter with his whole heart and lived by the words ‘live, love, listen, laugh, learn and leave a mark.'"

WinterKids and Shawnee Peak will help "leave a mark" for Cooper by bringing kids and families out on the slopes to learn and have fun together. Shawnee Peak has generously offered 75 pre-registered children and adults the chance to try skiing and snowboarding for the very first time, with free lessons, rentals, and lift tickets.

Allison Kennie, who’s in her early 30s, was looking for something different to help her get back in shape after she had her daughter a few years ago. Friends suggested Punk Rope.

If you’ve never heard of Punk Rope, it’s kind of a cross between recess and boot camp. It was created by Tim Haft, a personal trainer and USA Track & Field Coach, and combines jump roping, play and music. Read more.
