Green Acres Kennel Shop will host a free seminar entitled A Pet Parents Perspective on Holistic and Complementary Healthcare on Saturday, March 19th at 10AM.

Today pet parents have a wealth of healthcare options for their pets that go well beyond traditional veterinary medicine. Green Acres co-owner Don Hanson will examine the typical holistic recommendations on nutrition and vaccinations. He will also discuss various complementary modalities of treatment (chiropractic care, acupuncture and Chinese medicine, herbs, homeopathy and Bach flower remedies). Don will discuss his experience with each of these modalities with his personal pets.

Acadia Hospital New Educational Series a Hit

“An Open Mind” hosts 68 attendees
Bangor, ME – On the evening of March 10 The Acadia Hospital offered the first presentation in the new Open Mind series, called “The Wisdom of the Aging Brain”, featuring Dr. Clifford Singer, Director of Geriatric Mental Health and Neuropsychiatry at Acadia.
This free community educational presentation attracted 68 attendees, and was unanimously well received based on the feedback forms collected after the talk. According to Acadia President and CEO David S. Proffitt, the turnout and feedback indicate an Open Mind is filling a need. “We were hoping for 20 attendees, so having nearly 70 people in attendance is a wonderful thing to see. Acadia will continue offering these types of presentations as a service to the community as we look to share our expertise and quality staff with our friends and neighbors.”

BANGOR – Cold weather got you down? Already read everything in your house...twice. Seen all the movies you’ve got so many times you can recite them?
The Annual “Banish the Winter Blahs” Book and Movie Sale & Swap at the Hammond Street Senior Center might be just what you need. The public is invited to peruse the massive selection weekdays during 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The sale is going on now through the end of the month. Most selections are just $1. A $5 Swap Pass entitles you to exchange up to 20 books and/or movies during school vacation week, Monday, February 21 through Friday, February 25. So, you can freshen up your bookshelves on the cheap or completely swap out your personal library all in one visit.
“We have hundreds upon hundreds of books. Senior Center members and volunteers have worked for more than a month to get everything organized by genre and to sort the fiction by author,” according to director of development and communications Deanna Partridge.
