Man dies after stabbing in Bangor | News
BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Bangor Police are investigating a stabbing that left one man dead Saturday.
Police say they were called to 80 Elm Street in Bangor just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday for the report of a man who had been stabbed. When authorities arrived on scene, they found a man at the home who was injured from a stab wound. He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, and died there later in the day Saturday.
Sergeant Paul Edwards with the Bangor Police Department said, "We have spoken to everyone involved in this altercation, if you will, that happened at 80 Elm Street. There was some sort of altercation there, a man was stabbed, we have spoken to the person that stabbed this man. We have spoken to some witnesses in the area."
According to Sergeant Edwards, this was not a random act of violence but the investigation showed inconsistences that this might be a murder.
"There is again no threat to the public. The person that has stabbed this man that has died is free. We will wait and see how this all turns out as far as the autopsy and again a review by the [Attorney General's] office."
An autopsy on the victim will be done by the State Medical Examiner's Office. A cause and manner of death, along with the victim's identity are expected to be released Monday.
The Attorney General's office will make a decision on what charges, if any should be filed.
