BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A lot people celebrated this Thanksgiving with family and friends, watching football and eating turkey. The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter was filled with volunteers who cooked a big Thanksgiving meal.
Case management worker at the shelter Marla Flaherty said the eagles club donated $500 worth of food. The food was cooked and served by volunteers. Flaherty said volunteers could work in shifts of two to three hours, but most decided to stay for the entire day to help out those in need.
"This whole thing is done by them. Not once have we had to go in the kitchen and start doing stuff like that. They run the show, this is them doing that for the community," Flaherty said.
Flaherty said the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter will need volunteers for the rest of the holiday season and if people would like to volunteer, they can contact the homeless shelter at 207-947-0092.
