Teen charged in connection with cyber bullying

VEAZIE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A 15-year-old Orono High School student can breath easy now that a former student from the school has been charged for cyber bullying her.

Police are calling the case the most vicious case of bullying they have ever seen. It happened back in September when the parents of a 15-year-old girl went to the Veazie Police Department concerned for their daughters safety. The young girl had been receiving hate messages over her blog on the website Tumblr. The victim says she received at least 27 death threats and was being called every name in the book. "Just horrific. I mean stuff that really you don't expect, or maybe you expect to see in a horror book," says Veazie Police Chief Mark Leonard about the case.

"Your face is like a baby seal. Fat, furry, and just asking to be clubbed to death," read one post. Another even accused the victim of posting the messages herself. "It is really obvious you send yourself messages, we're friends and I just want you to know that it's just kind of sad you do that," says that post.

After an investigation by police, it was discovered that the messages were being posted by a residential computer in the southern part of the state. A 16-year-old girl, who was a former class mate of the victim, has been charged with felony terrorizing and harassment by electronic communication. "We're fortunate that the victim was comfortable enough to come to her parents and let them know what was going on and ultimately the parents came to us and hopefully we'll have a good resolve for this," says Chief Leonard.

The 16-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor December 24th.
