Brewer PD uses education to try to reduce pharmacy robberies
News

BREWER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Pharmacies have become hot spots for crime in Maine over the past few years. In 2008 there were 2 reported pharmacy robberies in the state, already in 2012 there have been 39.

In an attempt to reduce that number in future years the Brewer Police Department is using education instead of force. Lt. Chris Martin held 3 two hour seminars today at the Brewer Public Safety Building in Brewer for pharmacy industry workers from all over the state. The seminars were meant to give workers the tools necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to crime in their stores.

A total of 75 pharmacy workers including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, managers, delivery drivers, security personnel and many more were in attendance.

To find out when the next seminar is scheduled and how to sign up you can visit the Brewer Police Department website at www.brewermaine.gov/police.
