Three Unity area businesses caught the attention of visitors to the 2011 Bangor Garden Show over the weekend by capturing this year's People's Choice Award.
The display was a collaboration between Moonshine Gardens, Entwood Bonsai and Wooden Wonders, which provided the display's focal feature, a hobbit hole style garden shed. Moonshine Gardens is a landscape company based in Unity, and Entwood Bonsai is Maine's largest bonsai nursery located in Burnham. The two collaborated in 2010 to win second place in the judges' awards. Wooden Wonders is a new business also located in Unity that builds "custom hobbit holes for work or play" including playhouses, garden sheds, cottages, chicken coops, and doghouses, each with the distinctive dome shaped front and round front door.
Wooden Wonders' hobbit holes are on permanent display on Route 202/9 in Unity next to Unity Pond Pottery or online, www.woode
