Giggey Girl Gowns Has Changed My Life...2

Giggey Girl Gowns Has Changed My Life...2

Giggey Girl Gowns Has Changed My Life...2

When I first started the "Giggey Girl Gowns" Dress Donation Center, I never thought that it would be something big (but man did I hope). Today, I am proud to announce that we have given away 3 dresses! (A pair of shoes and a shawl as well!) Three very deserving girls have come to get dresses from us, and have had a wonderful time with it! As have I! I never thought that I would have so much watching girls try on dresses, but I really did! I don't think I have ever smiled that much in my life!

I also have a VERY HUGE announcement today. When we first started Giggey Girl Gowns, my mom set what I thought was an outrageous goal: collect 100 dresses. I thought that she was crazy, and decided not to share it publicly. Last time I had a news interview, we were at 85 dresses, and I publicly announced our goal for the first time. Today I am more the pround to announce that we reached this goal.

Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Families And Children Together

Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Families And Children Together

Volunteers from Families And Children Together (F.A.C.T.) will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, April 29th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Herbert Sargent Community Center in Old Town.  Dinner is only $6 per person,
$4 for children under 12, or $20 for a family of 5. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

All proceeds from this event support F.A.C.T.’s Pay It Forward Fund.  This fund assists grandfamilies in crisis.  It has bought fuel for families to stay warm during the winter, kept the electricity on, paid for a babysitter when the grandparent is sick, and much more.  When families receive funds they agree to pay it forward by helping someone else in need.  Families might offer babysitting to another family, provide transportation to an elderly neighbor, or maybe knit hat and mittens for children.  The possibilities are endless.

Birch bark etching workshop for children being held at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor

The Abbe Museum will host a birch bark etching workshop for children ages 6 through 12 on April 9, free at our downtown Bar Harbor location.  The first session, from 10:30-12:00 is full, but the Museum is accepting reservations for the second session, which will take place from 1:00-2:30.

David Moses Bridges, Passamaquoddy, is a renowned birch bark artist and educator.  David specializes in birch bark baskets and canoes, and etches the bark with beautiful double curve motifs, traditional to the Passamaquoddy, or with his own designs.  Children will make a medallion to take home, etched using David’s stencils, or with designs from their own creative minds.  David will also teach participants about the Passamaquoddy people and language through stories and legends.
