Bangor Area Children’s Choir Launches 20th Anniversary Season

The Bangor Area Children’s Choir (BACC) is preparing to start an exciting year with auditions for new singers on September 15th.   Under the musical direction of Steve Weston and Amy Maier, young singers will perform a diverse and challenging repertoire during this special 20th anniversary season.  BACC will host its main celebration for the entire community in the Spring of 2012.

BACC is a non-profit, independent organization that, for 20 years, has been providing an enriching vocal experience to youth from as far away as Ellsworth and Dover-Foxcroft.  BACC reinforces and adds to the experience students receive in school and/or from private lessons by teaching vocal control and listening skills to a smaller group of singers.  Members of the choir support each other through their similar enjoyment of music.  This environment allows singers to experience a rewarding selection of music that is safe for developing voices.  BACC also

Our first chicken dinner from the land!

Our first chicken dinner from the land!

It was an historic meal for us this weekend!  We had our first chicken dinner with a meat bird that we raised on our land!  For me this was the culmination of a LOT of research and work.  We decided to start small and slaughter a few birds on Saturday.  Of course I will spare you the gory details.  It's not fun to kill anything really but it is a necessary part of eating and I was prepared to do it before I ever got started with this idea.  So the processing of the birds went well and we are glad we started with just a few since we learned a LOT and now feel confident about the larger slaughter that's coming.  I roasted the bird and it was DELICIOUS!  We all enjoyed it!  It's is also a satisfying feeling to be able to provide for my family in such a direct and tangible way.

I couldn't resist sharing how I cooked the bird so here is my own recipe.

CWC Angels Donates to Food Cupboards

CWC Angels Donates to Food Cupboards

The end of summer brings another tradition with it!  The CWC Angels School Store!  This summer, over 230 children were served with this school supply and clothing distribution program.  Everything from backpacks to socks and glue sticks to binders.  Through donations year round, the school store is stocked with brand new items to help all kids feel ready for the first day of school.

The shoppers do have some responsibility placed on them too!  In order to earn "CWC bucks", the kids are encouraged to do extra chores, help others and get caught "doing good".  An extra $1 is earned just by bringing in a non-perishable food item.  This year about 200 food items were donated.  The Partnership Food Pantry and Hampden Food Cupboard were the recipients of this years donations.

Thanks to all who helped at the School Store!
