Relay For Life of Penobscot to Kick Off on January 11 in Bangor

(Bangor, ME) - On Tuesday, January 11 at 6 pm, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of Penobscot will officially get underway. Bangor area community members will gather at the Bangor Banquet and Conference Center (701 Hogan Road) for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year. The rally will feature important event information, games, and will honor cancer survivors and caregivers. This also will be the first opportunity to register a team for the overnight event to be held on May 20 and 21 at the University of Maine track.
This is the first year that this Relay will be happening at the University of Maine track. Formerly, the event was held at the Old Town high school track, but due to the event’s increasing popularity, new accommodations needed to be found. “We are very excited about our new partnership with the University of Maine.

ARTIST TOM BRENNAN AT THE BANGOR PUBLIC LIBRARY

Artist Tom Brennan has taken the Maine State logo, “Maine: Life As It Should Be” and given it a little twist in his exhibit January 2011 at the Bangor Public Library. Titled “Maine Life As It Is”, the more than three dozen original paintings and drawings will be on display in the Bangor Public Library’s Lecture Hall throughout the month of January.
A lobsterman seining in a dory, a homeless woman feeding the birds, a child’s first snow covered pine tree: these and many more lifelike portraits of real Maine people are the body of this exhibit. You may recognize someone you know in this show because everyone is real and “of” Maine.
Tom Brennan’s work has become a fixture of the International Festival, Calais’ Canadian-American celebration that takes place each August.
