Registration Deadline Looms for Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament | Events
(BANGOR) The Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament can still accept teams to compete Saturday, February 9 at Camp Roosevelt in Eddington. Open, senior or women’s teams have until midnight Wednesday, February 6 to register. The Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary Club’s 4th Annual tournament is capping play at 20 teams.
The Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament uses a four-on-four, no-goalie, round-robin format on rinks about two-thirds of regulation size. Teams of six can expect to play three games for the $310 registration fee. Tournament organizers say to expect games of two 20-minute halves with 10-minute intermissions. Registration and tournament details can be found at www.pbpondhockey.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BangorBreakfastRotary.
“Time is running out, but the good news is that we still have space for more teams,” says Steve Andrew, Rotary Club president and Pond Hockey Committee Chair. “The Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament is a definite ‘go’ for this Saturday!” Andrew reports that the ice on Fitts Pond is between 12 and 18 inches deep.
The Pond Hockey Tournament raises money for the Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary Club’s Rotary Charities fund. In addition to registration fees, Andrew hopes that teams and spectators will take advantage of breakfast and lunch menu items being prepared by Jeff’s Catering. There is no charge for spectators to watch the games, and the Camp Roosevelt lodge will be open to warm up or get something to eat.
