Voyages through Time and Space in November at the Jordan Planetarium
Events, Families, Schools

The Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium takes visitors on trips to the furthest reaches of the universe and back in time to the beginning of life itself in exciting star shows every Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 and Sunday afternoons at 2:00.

If you are worrying about the apocalypse coming at the end of next month, it’s time to see the truth. On Friday, November 2, 16, & 30, and Saturday, November 10 & 24, "2012: Prophecies of the Maya" explores Mayan traditions, timekeeping, culture, and religion to better understand the predictions of doom, and why the end of the world might not be coming as soon as you think.

Alternate Fridays take visitors even further back in time to the very beginning of life and the Earth itself. Featured also are live demonstrations of the search for distant planets orbiting other stars. Examine the earthly extremes of viable life and imagine what else might be lurking 'out there' among the stars in "Origins of Life" on Friday, November 9 & 23 at 7:00pm.

Visitors can also explore the mysteries of light both visible, and invisible in "Cosmic Colors." From planets to the northern lights and blooming garden flowers, visitors will discover what makes a rainbow so breathtaking or how invisible light reveals the universe on Saturdays, November 3 & 17 at 7:00pm.

Younger sky watchers can meet a charming newborn star and travel with him among the other stars to find a family of planets he can call his own in "The Little Star that Could", Sunday afternoons at 2:00 October 11th and 25th. Alternate Sundays on the 4th and 18th take a journey to the far reaches of space to see glittering stars, planets, moons, and nebulas and much more through an astronomer’s telescope in "Trip Through Space".

Admission is $3 per person and seating is limited. For more information and reservations please call 207-581-1341 or contact: Alan Davenport - (207) 581-1341, alan@galaxymaine.com
