Fields4Kids (F4K) today announced the appointment of four officers to its Board of Directors. The officers are President, Ben Smith of Guidance Point Retirement Services, LLC; Vice President, Joe Kacer of Commercial Divers Inc. and Sunny Day Builders; Secretary Lee Clein of the Bangor School System; and Treasurer, Matthew LeClair, of Bangor Savings Bank. Fields4Kids is a non-profit organization founded in 2009. Its mission is to provide safe and reliable facilities and activities for youth, adults and seniors in the greater Bangor community. The organization is devoted to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle year-round for people of all ages, all sports and activities, in a fun, affordable and positive environment.

“I am excited about the recent strategic planning sessions that have been conducted,” said Smith. “I believe with a new committee and governance structure in place, we’re well positioned to improve on our mission to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for the community. As a grassroots organization, we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our programs and collaborate with other regional organizations.”

Fields4Kids regularly works with area schools and athletic programs that do not have recreational facilities of their own. Its current programs includes sports leagues for youth and adults, Toddler Time, the TOPSoccer Program for children with physical and mental disabilities, batting cage rentals, and party and event rental capabilities. Current youth leagues include soccer, field hockey, t-ball, and dodgeball. Adult leagues begin after Labor Day weekend for soccer and dodgeball.

“Ben Smith is a great choice to continue our remarkable, positive momentum and will continue to build the growing sense of pride in our organization and community” said MJ Ball, Executive Director of Fields4Kids. “He brings an incredible level of experience and accomplishment, and he quickly stood out as the right person to lead us forward.”

Smith, a Bangor area native and Brewer resident, serves as a Principal and Chief Investment Officer for Guidance Point Retirement Services, LLC, focusing on bringing investment consulting services to clients in the region. Ben is a CFA Charterholder and has over 10 years of experience in managing client investment portfolios, including individuals, families, retirement plans, endowments, foundations, businesses and trusts. Guidance Point Retirement Services currently advises on over $535 million in client assets.

Kacer is the owner of three locally based businesses, Commercial Divers Inc., Sunny Day Builders, and Sunny Day Apartments. Clein works as an educational technician at Bangor High School. Both Kacer and Clein hold a USSF National “D” Soccer Coaching License.
