Piscataquis Santa Needs Helpers

Piscataquis Santa Needs Helpers

December has arrived in Piscataquis County and many holiday festivities are planned to make the season a little merrier, especially for the children. With 435 requests received, the Piscataquis Santa Project elves are busy working to grant each of the children's wishes.

Sheree Brown, project Coordinator says, "Despite the harsh economy, the community has really stepped up this year. Project friends, like folks at the Piscataquis Pomona Grange, the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, the Mountain View Youth Development Center, and Rowell's Garage, have made it possible for many children to wake up with gifts on Christmas morning."  But, according to Brown, there are still more than 50 children with wishes to be granted. They are looking for people to sponsor a child and grant his or her wishes.

Bringing the spirit of Christmas to a child is easy and it can be done from a computer.

Free Thanksgiving Day Meal! While Beef O'Brady's will not be open this Thanksgiving Day, Sue, Dave and Andrew Kennedy have decided to open the restaurant from 11-2 to provide free Thanksgiving meals to the following: Senior Citizens, Fire, Police and any other Public Servant in Uniform and those less fortunate. This year (2010) has been a rough year for all of us, so this is our way of saying "Thank You" to our customers and a chance to give back to the community.

Halloween Block Party

Thanks to all who came out to the First Annual Downtown Halloween Block Party.  The event was a great success and it was wonderful to see so many children and families downtown enjoying the festivities.  Thanks to the many organizations and businesses who participated to make this event so special.
A special thanks to Sam & Yuri for donating their time and talent to fill Pickering Square with music and the spirit of Halloween.
The Outdoor Market hosted 20 vendors and more than 20 businesses participated in the trick or treating.  Over 200 children participated in the trick or treating!  We hope to make this event even bigger next year!
If you have any pictures from the event please share with Shirar or post on the Downtown Bangor facebook fan page.

Teens Hold Garage/Bake Sale to Help Kids in Need
