UMaine Career Fair

The University of Maine is holding its annual Career Fair Wednesday, February 1 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the New Balance Student Recreation Center.

Some 85 companies, organizations and graduate school programs have registered to exhibit at the fair this year, and are looking forward to meeting students who could become interns, summer employees or fulltime employees, says Patty Counihan, director of the UMaine Career Center (http://umaine.edu/career/), organizer of the event.

Typically, about 1,000 or more students descend upon the Career Fair, dressed professionally and armed with portfolios and resumes -- looking to learn about companies, agencies and organizations. An informal chat with a company representative could open the door to a formal job interview, Counihan says.

Many participating employers are Maine-based, she says. Others come from throughout New England, and beyond, including the federal government and national nonprofits.

All sectors of employment will be represented: healthcare, non-profit agencies, business, industry, government, environmental, utilities, summer camps, education, and graduate schools.

The Career Fair is designed for UMaine students and alumni, though students at other colleges and universities throughout Maine also are welcome. For more information, including details on the participating employers and links to their websites, go to www.umaine.edu/career or phone the Career Center at 581-1359.

Financially supporting this year's fair are Bath Iron Works/General Dynamics, an underwriter, and friends Pike Industries, Boston Financial Data Services, and Tyler Technologies, Inc.
