Students Complete Course on How To Deal Table Games and Poker
Business, Schools

Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway is honoring about 60 students for completing the first course in Maine teaching people how to deal table games and poker.  The course began in January and was held in conjunction with Eastern Maine Community College’s Hospitality Institute.  The 8-week course ran five days a week, and gave students the opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge of table games that could be used for job opportunities at Hollywood Casino, or other gaming facilities around the world.

“These students have put in a lot of effort to get to this point,” said John Osborne, General Manager of Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway. “They have put in long days, and are now prepared to deal all of the games that we offer at Hollywood Casino,  and they are also prepared to enhance the entertainment experience of our customers. We’re looking forward to putting their skills to use when table games begin operating on Friday, March 16th.”

A celebration to honor the graduates of the table games and poker dealing course is being held Sunday evening at Hollywood Casino.

In November of last year, voters in Penobscot County overwhelmingly approved table games at Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway. The yes vote resulted in 89 new jobs for dealers, table games management, surveillance, casino cashiering, and beverage service. All positions include a generous benefits package and room for advancement.

Table games are expected to provide sustainable funding for the new arena in Bangor through increased revenue and taxes from Hollywood Casino. Table games are slated to begin operating on Friday, March 16.
