Banish the Winter Blahs at Book and Movie Sale & Swap

BANGOR – Cold weather got you down? Already read everything in your house...twice. Seen all the movies you’ve got so many times you can recite them?
The Annual “Banish the Winter Blahs” Book and Movie Sale & Swap at the Hammond Street Senior Center might be just what you need. The public is invited to peruse the massive selection weekdays during 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The sale is going on now through the end of the month. Most selections are just $1. A $5 Swap Pass entitles you to exchange up to 20 books and/or movies during school vacation week, Monday, February 21 through Friday, February 25. So, you can freshen up your bookshelves on the cheap or completely swap out your personal library all in one visit.
“We have hundreds upon hundreds of books. Senior Center members and volunteers have worked for more than a month to get everything organized by genre and to sort the fiction by author,” according to director of development and communications Deanna Partridge. “Of course, new selections come in every day, so it’s worth stopping back often.”
The Senior Center has been collecting books for this sale and swap for a year, including a significant donation from the Simpson Memorial Library in Carmel. Books in good condition are always welcome and can be brought to the Senior Center during normal business hours. Items left after the event will be packed and sent to the Senior Center’s resale and retail emporium Aunt Nellie’s Attic at 223 Main Road in Holden.
Hammond Street Senior Center is located in Downtown Bangor at 2 Hammond Street, between the Grasshopper Shop and Kenduskeag Stream, heading toward State Street Hill. For information about the Senior Center or this event, call 262-5532 or visit www.hammondstreet.org
