Maine Discovery Museum will hold its ninth annual benefit auction on Saturday, November 19th at the Hilton Garden Inn, 250 Haskell Road in Bangor.  Themed “Top Shelf,” this year’s auction features 16”x20” wooden wall shelves that have been transformed into works of art by over 60 artists from all over the state of Maine.  These artists have donated their time and talent to help the children’s museum raise money for scholarships and the museum’s annual fund.

“Our annual dinner auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” says Niles Parker, Executive Director of the Maine Discovery Museum.  “It’s critical for us. It generates virtually all of the scholarship money we offer and funds our summer camps and numerous other programs as well. The outstanding work of artists across the state makes this event unique and helps ensure that the museum continues its successful outreach. ”

Past MDM auctions have featured chairs, treasure boxes, benches, clocks, mirrors, tables and storage bins.  “The quality and variety of the work is a thrill, every year,” says Susan Carlisle, chair of the museum’s Auction Committee. “We are so grateful to our participating artists who create these gorgeous and unique pieces for us to auction off to support the museum.”

Artists Carol Michaud of Bangor and Peg Hanson of Hampden lent their talents to this year's “Top Shelf” auction, using their shelves as a canvas to create something truly “Maine.”

Tickets are $50 per person and the deadline to reserve your seat is Friday, November 11th.  Shelves are on display at Maine Discovery Museum, 74 Main Street in Bangor, and can be viewed during regular museum hours Tuesday - Saturday 9:30 - 5:00 and Sunday 12:00 - 5:00.
