Teens Hold Garage/Bake Sale to Help Kids in Need

On Friday, November 5th 2010 and Saturday, November 6th 2010, the Bangor Y's Interact Leaders Club will be having a Garage/Bake Sale to benefit kids in need. Proceeds from the garage sale will go towards a scholarship fund to send at least one youth/teen to attend the Bangor Y’s Leaders School in the summer of 2011. Leaders School is a one-week summer camp that helps kids find direction and purpose as well as strengthen their self-esteem. Funds from the bake sale benefit Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a Jimmy Fund fundraising event to help support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer. Items for the garage sale are donated by Interact Leaders Club, Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary members, friends, families and Y members. Goods for the bake sale are made by Interact and Rotary members. The Interact Leaders Club’s Garage/Bake Sale will be on Friday, November 5th from 4pm to 8pm and Saturday, November 6th, from 7am to 1pm in the Everett Room at 127 Hammond St. Bangor, ME.
The Bangor Y’s Interact Leaders Club is co-sponsored by the Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary and the United Way of Eastern Maine. The Interact Leaders Club is a service club for grades 6-12, developing leadership, presentation and business skills while serving the community through service projects. The Club is run by teens, deciding which organizations to help and organizing and executing fundraising events. Each year, the Club raises money for a local and international non-profit organization.
The Interact Leaders Club meets during the school year. Grades 6th through 8th meet Wednesdays at 5:30pm and grades 9th through 12th meet Tuesdays every week at 6pm at the Bangor Y’s Hammond Street location. It is advised by Adriana Hopkins.
