Anziani gets 25 years in prison for toddler death

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The man who killed a 15-month-old boy last February will spend the next 25 years behind bars.

Edgard Anziani got one of the highest sentences anyone in the state can receive for killing a child younger than the age of six.  Defense Attorney Jeff Silverstein says that it's very rare for the court to impose a sentence that's even greater than what the state requests, but that's exactly what happened at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor today.

Maine Technology Institute awards over $761,000

The Maine Technology Institute (MTI) Board of Directors recently approved four new Development Awards totaling $761,348 for Maine companies that are developing innovative technologies. The awards were matched with combined contributions over $890,047 by the recipients. The MTI Development Award is a conditional loan that companies pay back as they achieve success.

Awards were announced for:

Wizbe Innovations LLC, in Manchester, received $64,000 for their Parachute Fabric Match Amount: $74,000 Wizbe Innovations is using their MTI Development Award to further develop a parachute fabric for the U.S. Army with controllable and adjustable permeability. Wizbe initially began their work with a U.S. Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to develop a prototype fabric. Using precision manufacturing, the fabric integrates an electronic system into the fabric.

Mandatory repairs for WLBZ 2

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- We have a programming note for you. WLBZ 2 is going off the air from 11:35p.m. into tomorrow morning.

We have to do some necessary transmitter maintenance and repairs but will be back on the air as soon as the work is complete.

WLBZ should be back on the air in three to six hours before the Morning Report begins.  This will not affect viewers who watch WLBZ 2 on Time Warner Cable or Dish satellite.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Weekend Tag Sale to benefit Senior Center

TAG SALE AT EMPORIUM SUPPORTS SENIORS’ INDEPENDENCE

HOLDEN — Aunt Nellie’s Attic is hosting a “Celebrating Independence” tag sale 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3. The celebration isn’t just about the Fourth of July
though.

Aunt Nellie’s Attic is a resale and retail emporium that benefits the Hammond Street Senior
Center. As of January 1st of this year, the Senior Center in a public charity, independent of the
Couri Foundation, which has operated the facility since its founding in 1999. The shop is run
entirely by senior center members and volunteers and 100 percent of the stores profits go di-
rectly to support the programs and offerings of the senior center.

Volunteers at the resale and retail emporium have been sorting books, collecting more pallets of
new merchandise from our storage hanger, and stocking the shelves with lots of brand new,
high-end clothing and other must-haves.

9 a.m.– 2 p.m., at the Hammond Street Senior Center, 2 Hammond Street, Downtown Bangor.

Members of the Senior Center are preparing homemade pies, jams & jellies, cakes, candies, and

handmade pottery & art to share with strawberry lovers of all ages.
